Deportivo Alaves have been inconsistent but entertaining in the opening few months of this season as the Basque club now prepare to welcome a Leganes side that won the second-tier last season to the Mendizarozza this weekend.

Alaves Preview: Up and down Alaves

Deportivo Alaves remain managed by Luis Garcia Plaza. Despite managing to finish in the top-half of La Liga last season in their first season back in the top-flight following promotion via the Segunda Division playoffs, there were persistent rumours throughout the campaign that he would be sacked.

He remains, though, with Alaves beginning the weekend sitting in the bottom-half of La Liga. The Basque side come into this one on the back of taking a 1-0 lead at the Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid before eventually falling to a 2-1 defeat against a faltering and inconsistent Los Rojiblancos.

Leganes Preview: Improving Lega

The visitors come into this one on the back of a 3-0 loss to Spanish and European champions Real Madrid at Butarque in their most recent outing last weekend following the November international break with goals being scored by Fede Valverde, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham for Los Blancos.

Under the management of exciting former Deportivo La Coruna coach Borja Jimenez, Leganes have intended to play their progressive style of football at a higher level and, after a slow start to the campaign, have begun to get results to go with their performances as they move away from the bottom three and the relegation places.

Alaves Team News: Manu Sanchez suspension

Manu Sanchez’ yellow card against Atletico Madrid last weekend means is now missing through suspension for this weekend’s clash against Leganes.

As well as the absence of the former Atletico left-back, Alaves also have injury issues with both summer signing Hugo Novoa and experienced midfielder Carlos Benavidez unavailable.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Antonio Sivera; Tenaglia, Abqar, Santiago Mourino, Diarra; Ander Guevara, Antonio Blanco; Carlos Vicente, Jon Guridi, Carlos Martin; Kike

Unavailable: Hugo Novoa (Injured), Manu Sanchez (Suspended), Carlos Benavidez (Injured)

Leganes Team News: No Enric Franquesa

Exciting and versatile wide man Enric Franquesa is essential to the way in which Leganes play but he has picked up something of a serious injury ahead of this one.

Aside from Enric Franquesa, though, the visitors have no injury concerns or suspension issues so they can name an unchanged eleven for this one.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Dmitrovic; Sergio, Nastasic, Javi Hernandez; Andre Altimira, Renato Tapia, Neyou, Juan Cruz; Brasanac, Munir; Miguel de la Fuente

Unavailable: Enric Franquesa (Injured)

Alaves vs Leganes Prediction

Deportivo Alaves have been quite entertaining to watch at the start of this season with their 14 games so far this season consisting of 39 goals but after a bright-ish start they have now lost seven of their last eight matches in La Liga. Leganes will therefore sense a fragility and vulnerability to their opposition so will likely get on the front foot in this one and it could lead to quite an entertaining encounter in which both teams scoring seems a good bet.
