THE TEAM NEWS

SYDNEY SWANS

  • Sydney Swans pushed Collingwood all the way in their most recent game last week but their failure to hang on to a half-time lead meant they lost for the second game in a row and leaves them with just one win in seven.
  • The Swans led by 24 points at one point in the second quarter and although that lead was reduced to 18 at the half, it was still a strong position for the Sydney outfit to be in but the Magpies proved too good as they fought back to win 50-41.
  • Sitting at 3-7, the season is all but done for the Swans and they will now hand a debut to Zac Foot for this clash with Colin O’Riordan and Nick Blakey also coming into the side with the injured Aliir Aliir dropping out along with the dropped Elijah Taylor and Matthew Ling.

GWS GIANTS

  • GWS Giants begin Round 12 in eighth spot in the AFL after they held off Essendon in their most recent game to make it three successive victories which has seen them improve to 6-4.
  • The Giants looked set for defeat having trailed by 16 points at the start of the final quarter of the contest but a superb finish to the game saw them fight back to seal an important four-point success.
  • They will hope to continue their good run of form here but they will be without the injured Phil Davis whilst Shane Mumford is managed so Sam Jacobs comes into the side along with Tom Hutchesson who will debut.

THE PREDICTION

GWS Giants are beginning to show the kind of form that saw them make last year’s Grand Final but they will want to extend their winning streak to four matches to give themselves some breathing space in the race to make the finals. They occupy the eighth and final spot but they sit just four points from second-placed Geelong Cats so a win here would be a huge boost. The Swans have won just one of their last seven matches and with the Giants having won their last three as well as last three match-ups with the Swans, it is the away side that should earn the victory in this one.
