THE TEAM NEWS

PORT ADELAIDE

  • Port Adelaide were given a stark reminder of the level they will need to play at if they are to claim the AFL Premiership as they came unstuck against Geelong Cats in a one-sided affair last week.
  • The Power remain at the top of the ladder but their three-match winning streak was ended by a comprehensive display from the Cats who bettered them in every quarter but the 42-6 scoreline the final quarter will be of particular concern.
  • That resulted in a 60-point defeat and they will have to show big improvements in this clash with Dan Houston and Peter Hadhams banned while Kane Farrell and Xavier Duursma have been dropped which sees Brad Ebert, Jarrod Lienert, Justin Westhoff and Riley Bonner come into the side.

HAWTHORN

  • Hawthorn’s poor run of form continued as they lost for the sixth time in their last seven matches when going down to West Coast Eagles last week and their hopes of mounting a challenge for a spot in the finals are all but over.
  • The Hawks were kept scoreless in the first quarter and that set the tone for a comfortable defeat as they failed to keep the Eagles in check, eventually succumbing to an 81-49 loss.
  • To make matters worse, James Sicily, James Frawley, Jaeger O’Meara and Jack Gunston all copped injuries while Conor Nash and Harry Morrison are dropped so Daniel Howe, James Cousins, Tom Scully, Oliver Hanrahan, Jonathon Patton and debutant Michael Hartley are all called into the line-up.

THE PREDICTION

Port Adelaide and Hawthorn are playing out a very contrasting season but both come into this on the back of a loss. The Power were outclassed by Geelong Cats last week but remain at the top of the ladder, although another loss would place that spot in jeopardy. The Hawks on the other hand have won just one of their last seven in what has been a miserable campaign and with the Power eager to put last week’s defeat behind them, another defeat is on the cards for Hawthorn with Port Adelaide able to win by at least 30 points.
