THE TEAM NEWS
MELBOURNE
- Melbourne lost for the second game in succession as their poor season continued and dating back to last season, the Demons have now managed just a solitary victory from their last 11 matches.
- They were defeated by reigning premiers Richmond with the Tigers producing a strong showing in the quarters either side of the half in which the Demons were outscored 13-41 during that time.
- That loss has prompted a raft of changes with Adam Tomlinson, Jayden Hunt, Joel Smith and Trent Rivers all making way with Harley Bennell, Neville Jetta, Oscar McDonald and Sam Weideman taking their spots.
GOLD COAST SUNS
- Gold Coast Suns put up a strong fight against Geelong Cats last week but fell away in the final quarter as they failed to stick with their opponents and went down to their first loss in four matches.
- 15 points separated the two teams at the end of the third quarter but the Suns were kept scoreless in the final quarter as they were defeated 22-0 in that period, although they will take plenty from their efforts across the full game.
- The Suns came up against quality opposition but they will believe they can hit straight back here against Melbourne with Brayden Fiorini and debutant Izak Rankine coming into the line-up for the injured Matt Rowell and omitted Will Powell.
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne have endured a disappointing start to 2020 with their struggles from last season still lingering over them. They now face Gold Coast Suns who showed plenty in defeat to Geelong Cats last week. The Suns are 3-2 which is a far cry from their efforts in the previous campaign and they will be looking to get back to winning ways to highlight their improvements. The Demons have won the last seven between the two teams but the Suns can snap that run by claiming the victory here.
