HAWTHORN
- Hawthorn produced a huge upset last week as they handed reigning premiers Richmond their first defeat in over a year as they completely outplayed their opponents in an eye-catching victory.
- The Hawks dominated from the off and a stunning first period saw them set the win up thanks as they opened up a 1-33 scoreline and they did not allow the Tigers back into the game as they sealed a 39-71 success.
- Hawthorn will be desperate to build on that and will look to make it three wins from four despite their difficult fixture list to start the season with the Hawks naming an unchanged line-up for this clash.
NORTH MELBOURNE
- North Melbourne’s solid start to the season suffered a blip as they were unable to make it three straight wins this campaign with their defeat to Sydney Swans last week their first loss in five matches stretching back to last year.
- The Kangaroos were only narrowly behind at the half but a poor third quarter left them with a 27-point deficit to make up in the final quarter which they were unable to do.
- That performance by the Swans has been unacceptable with four changes made to last week’s line-up as Aiden Bonar, Jamie Macmillan, Mason Wood and Paul Ahern make way for Ben Cunnington, Marley Williams as well as debutants Jack Mahony and Tristan Xerri.
THE PREDICTION
Hawthorn made a big statement with a superb win over reigning premiers Richmond last week. They were handed a tough draw to start their season but have navigated it well so far with two wins from three and a fourth win here would leave them in great shape for the remainder of the campaign. They face North Melbourne in what is another tricky game but the Kangaroos lost their first game of the year last week which has prompted two debutants featuring in this game but their inclusion is unlikely to be enough to prevent their side suffering a second loss in a row.
