THE TEAM NEWS

HAWTHORN

  • Hawthorn’s inconsistent start to 2020 continued as they slipped to 3-3 thanks to a second consecutive loss with Collingwood getting the better of them in their contest last week.
  • The Hawks struggled to breach the solid Magpies’ defence and they were only able to post 27 points which means they have managed to score just 76 points in their last two fixtures.
  • The defeat was made worse owing to injuries to Jonathon Ceglar and Jonathon Patton while Paul Puopolo is dropped which sees Mitch Lewis and Shaun Burgoyne come into the side alongside debutant Darren Minchington.

MELBOURNE

  • Melbourne earned just their second win from their five matches to date so far this season as they were able to fend off Gold Coast Suns in their meeting last week and they will hope to build on that as they face Hawthorn.
  • The Demons trailed after the first quarter but responded well and when they managed to get in front, they were able to prevent the Suns from retaking the lead at any point in the game.
  • With that win behind them, the Demons have made just one change to this week’s side and it is an enforced one with Tom McDonald ruled out and his spot is taken by Luke Jackson.

THE PREDICTION

Hawthorn have not started the season with the consistency that they were hoping for and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways as they face Melbourne. The Hawks have lost their last two but they have faced two tough games in a row and will believe they can come out on top of this contest. The Demons did well to win last week and will make it difficult for the Hawks and with Hawthorn struggling for points of late, this clash should see under 125 points.
