THE TEAM NEWS
RICHMOND
- Richmond progressed to their second Grand Final in succession and the defending premiers have positioned themselves superbly to defend their crown after a brilliant performance saw them see off minor premiers Port Adelaide last week.
- The Tigers were slight underdogs ahead of their game with the Power but did enough to seal a narrow win and they have now lost just one of their last nine matches.
- Richmond have opted to retain the same 22 that saw off Port Adelaide last week with defender David Astbury set to support Toby Nankervis in the ruck.
GEELONG CATS
- After dominating Collingwood in their previous outing, Geelong Cats once again highlighted their premiership credentials as they secured their spot in the Grand Final with another outstanding display against Brisbane Lions.
- The Cats have now scored 182 points in their last two matches after blowing the Lions away as they won by a 40-point margin thanks to outscoring their opponents 15-50 in the second half of last week’s contest.
- Like their opponents, the Cats have also decided to stick with the same side from their win last week which means Tom Hawkins will play despite suffering from illness in the early part of the week.
THE PREDICTION
Richmond will be looking to make it back-to-back premierships as they take on Geelong Cats in the 2020 AFL Grand Final. The Tigers have had to make it here the hard way after losing in Week 1 of the finals but they have well and truly put that loss to Brisbane Lions behind them. They accounted for minor premiers Port Adelaide last week but they will come up against an extremely dangerous Geelong side here. The Cats also lost in Week 1 but they have averaged 91 points per game in their two matches since to emphatically secure their spot in the showpiece of the season. There is little to split between the two teams but Tigers have had the better of the Cats in their recent meetings, winning five of the last six with two of those coming in play-off matches. However, their clash earlier in the season produced just 88 points and in what should be a tight game that could go either way, expect a low-scoring Grand Final that produces no more than 124 points.
