THE TEAM NEWS
GOLD COAST SUNS
- Gold Coast Suns’ hopes of making the top eight suffered another blow as they were defeated for a third consecutive occasion when going down to St. Kilda last week with that loss seeing them fall to 4-6.
- The Suns put in extremely valiant display against the Saints as they pushed the in-form side all the way but in a closely-fought game, Gold Coast fell just short as they were narrowly defeated by just four points.
- Sam Flanders will come in for his debut in this contest and he will be joined by Josh Corbett and Brayden Fiorini with Alex Sexton and Nick Holman both dropped whilst Jeremy Sharp is out because of injury.
ESSENDON
- Essendon produced a much better performance in response to their horror show against Brisbane Lions but they were unable to return to winning ways as they were edged by GWS Giants last week.
- The Bombers looked set to put the miserable loss to the Lions behind them in impressive fashion as they built a 22-point advantage at the half but they were unable to hang on to that lead as the Giants fought back to win by four.
- They will rest Michael Hurley and Sam Draper for this clash as the Bombers look to manage their workload whilst Jacob Townsend is out injured so Martin Gleeson, Dylan Clarke and Tom Bellchambers come into the side.
THE PREDICTION
Gold Coast Suns produced a solid performance against St. Kilda last time out but it was not enough to end their losing run and they will be eager to stop the rot at three matches as they host Essendon. The Suns will feel a repeat display will result in a better outcome this time around but it will be a tricky task against the Bombers. Having fallen to 5-4, Essendon also need a victory to stay in touch of the top eight but their confidence is likely to be low after failing to hold on to a big half-time lead last time out and the Suns can do enough to earn a first win in four.
