THE TEAM NEWS
BRISBANE LIONS
- Brisbane Lions were unable to capitalise on a solid start against Richmond as their struggles against the Tigers continued and that defeat ended a run of three straight wins for the Lions.
- Opening a 13-point lead inside the opening nine minutes, the Lions looked set for a big performance but they failed to hold on to that lead for long and the Tigers dominated when they took the lead.
- The 82-41 loss saw the Lions fall to 7-3 and they have dropped three players as a result of that with Sam Skinner, Connor Ballenden and Jack Payne all making way while Cam Rayner is injured so Matt Eagles, Daniel Rich, Grant Birchall and Dan McStay all come into the side.
WESTERN BULLDOGS
- Western Bulldogs have now lost two games in a row as they went down to top of the ladder Port Adelaide on Monday and with a 5-5 record, they will be desperate to return to winning ways as quickly as possible.
- The Bulldogs started brightly and held a lead at the half but a poor showing in the third quarter left them with too much to do and they went down 55-42 despite a spirited comeback in the closing stages.
- In their quest to put successive losses behind them, the Bulldogs will be able to call upon Aaron Naughton as well as Bailey Dale and Ryan Gardner with Cody Weightman and Roarke Smith dropped while Hayden Crozier is injured.
THE PREDICTION
Brisbane Lions will be eager to make an immediate return to winning ways as they look to stay in touch at the top of the ladder. They host Western Bulldogs, a side that have struggled for consistency this season and come into this having lost their last two. This is a big game for both teams and one that could end up being a close contest but back on home soil, the Lions should have too much for the Bulldogs.
