THE TEAM NEWS
PORT ADELAIDE
- Port Adelaide Power ended their three-match losing streak at just the right time as they hammered Essendon Bombers to keep their finals hopes alive with the Power remaining four points outside the top 8.
- Perhaps more importantly than just simply picking up the win and staying in touch of a spot in the finals, they prevented Essendon from moving out of reach of them with that gap now eight points.
- Following their highly impressive display, the Power have named an unchanged line-up after they avoided any injuries or suspensions and will hope that the continuity in their side can help them make it back-to-back wins.
SYDNEY
- Sydney Swans suffered a fifth consecutive defeat as they were narrowly edged out against GWS Giants in a result that confirmed what the Swans had anticipated; their slim hopes of competing in the finals coming to an end.
- With little to play for other than pride this season, the Swans may opt to rotate their line-up in the coming weeks and will hand out one debut this week as midfielder James Bell gets his chance to shine.
- He has been impressive in the NEAFL and will get the opportunity to prove he can cut it in the AFL where he will be joined by Swans’ co-captain Dane Rampe who returns from an eye injury, with Kieren Jack and James Rose dropped.
THE PREDICTION
Port Adelaide secured a hugely important win and it could turn out to be a significant point of their year when the regular season is over. After three successive defeats, they looked like they were set to miss out on a spot in the finals but have given themselves hope. They performed extremely well last week and should they replicate that here against Sydney, they will keep the pressure on those teams above them on the ladder.
