THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE

  • Melbourne Demons suffered their fourth consecutive defeat as they were comfortably beaten by Richmond Tigers in their last game with a 17th place now looking likely for them unless they can end this losing streak quickly.
  • With just one win on home soil from their last five, this game against Collingwood Magpies being at the MCG does not really help them with the end of the season not coming soon enough for the struggling Demons.
  • They have made just one change to last week’s line-up with Braydon Preuss finding himself on the outer after he was omitted with Steven May back in the side following a hamstring injury.

COLLINGWOOD

  • Collingwood Magpies thumped Gold Coast Suns as they got back to winning ways following two consecutive defeats and another fixture against one of the teams struggling at the wrong end of the ladder gives them a chance to make it back-to-back wins.
  • The Magpies are all-but certain to compete in the finals after that win and will now focus their attention on building some form to end the regular season but they will be without Dayne Beams for the rest of the season after he underwent shoulder surgery this week.
  • Mason Cox is also out of the side that won last week as he too was ruled out for the season after picking up an eye injury and his place is taken by Jack Magden for this game against Melbourne.

THE PREDICTION

Collingwood will want to finish the regular season on a high and can still achieve a place in the top 4. They head to Melbourne to face the Demons who are on a bad run of form having lost four-straight games. They could still end up with the wooden spoon if Gold Coast can pick up some unlikely wins but it will have been a poor season for Melbourne regardless. The Magpies blew Gold Coast away last week and they could do similar here despite their injury woes.
