THE TEAM NEWS

GWS GIANTS

  • GWS Giants suffered a terrible defeat at the hands of Hawthorn Hawks which meant that their spot in the finals was still not confirmed but with results this weekend going their way, their spot is now secure but they will have to seriously improve if they want to stick around for long.
  • The Giants were only able to post 29 points as the Hawks ran riot in the game at Manuka Oval in Canberra and they will hope a return to home soil can help them get back on track as they look to find some form ahead of the finals.
  • Following last week’s shocker, the Giants have reacted by making five changes with Jackson Hatley, Dawson Simpson and Aiden Bonar dropped whilst Jeremy Cameron and Brett Deledio are injured and that sees Josh Kelly, Matt de Boer, Harry Haimmelberg, Aidan Corr and Zach Spoule come in with the latter making his debut.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

  • Western Bulldogs secured a huge win in their quest to qualify for the finals as they hammered top 8 rivals Essendon Bombers by over 100 points in their clash in Melbourne last week.
  • That result means that the Bulldogs have the fate of their season in their own hands and if they win their remaining two matches, they will seal their spot in the play-offs whilst they still have a chance of coming as high as sixth although seventh or eighth place looks more likely.
  • Last week’s superb win has prompted the naming of an unchanged side for the Bulldogs which will be a kick in the teeth for some of the VFL players who also produced a magnificent win of their own last week.

THE PREDICTION

GWS were awful last week but they have now qualified for the finals thanks to other results this weekend and the pressure might be off them. They will need to try and build some form before the finals and face a tricky game here against a Western Bulldogs side desperate for a win of their own to keep their play-off fate in their own hands. They were sensational last week and should they be able to repeat that level of performance, they will make it back-to-back wins.
