THE TEAM NEWS

GWS GIANTS

  • GWS Giants secured another important victory as they were able to back-up their win over Collingwood Magpies by seeing off Port Adelaide Power last week to leave the Giants in a very strong position in the top 8.
  • That win all but guaranteed their spot in the finals as they sit eight points ahead of the team in ninth spot but crucially, they have three other teams between themselves and the current holders of that position.
  • The Giants suffered a double injury blow last week as they lost defender Sam Taylor whilst Daniel Lloyd also picked up a knock and they are replaced by Brett Deledio after he was managed last week and Jake Stein also receives a call-up.

SYDNEY

  • Sydney Swans suffered another defeat and they must surely have waved the white flag in their attempts to make a late run towards a finals spot as they fell to defeat at home to top of the ladder Geelong Cats.
  • After their fourth-straight defeat last week, the Swans have made four changes with two of them forced upon them due to injuries with Dane Rampe and Colin O’Riordan the unfortunate ones who will miss at least a game each.
  • They are joined on the sidelines by the omitted pair of Lewis Melican and Ryley Stoddart with James Rose, Kieren Jack, Daniel Menzel and Oliver Florent all called into the side to replace those four.

THE PREDICTION

GWS Giants will be looking to build some momentum as they head into the finals. Their place is not secure just yet but it would take a minor miracle for them to tumble out of the top 8 by the end of the regular season. They host Sydney Swans here who are not mathematically out of the race yet but they have too much work to do and their fate could even be sealed this weekend as the home side can claim their third win in a row.
