THE TEAM NEWS

RICHMOND TIGERS

  • Richmond Tigers will come into this AFL Grand Final on the back of 11 straight victories after they were made to work hard by Geelong Cats and despite trailing by 21 points at half-time, they hit back in the second half to seal what turned out to be a comfortable win.
  • The Tigers will be attempting to win their second Grand Final in the last three years having won the title in 2017 with Richmond accounting for GWS in the preliminary final on their way to winning that crown.
  • Richmond have sprung a huge surprise by naming a debutant in their side, which is the first time in AFL history that a player will make his debut in a Grand Final, with Marlion Pickett set to make his bow in place of Jack Graham who is ruled out with a dislocated shoulder.

GWS GIANTS

  • GWS Giants progressed to the AFL Grand Final with a superb victory at Collingwood Magpies but they had to hold on in the final minutes after almost blowing a 33-point lead in the fourth and final quarter.
  • Leading 23-56, the Giants looked set for a comfortable passage to their first-ever Grand Final but a late comeback by the Magpies meant they had to show great character to see off their opponents.
  • Toby Greene returns to boost the Giants after he served his one-match suspension whilst Lachie Whitfield is also another big inclusion with Lachie Keeffe and Ian Hill the two unlucky men to miss out.

THE PREDICTION

Richmond Tigers will enter their second AFL Grand Final in three years as favourites to claim the crown again but will face a tough test against GWS Giants. Richmond are on an 11 match winning streak and will fancy their chances of making it 12 but the Giants have already caused a couple of shocks on their way to the Grand Final having ended the regular season in sixth place. The Tigers have the benefit of playing on home soil and that can aid them to cap off a superb second half to the season.
