THE TEAM NEWS
BRISBANE LIONS
- Brisbane Lions could not make home advantage count as they were on the end of a heavy defeat against Richmond Tigers in their qualifying final and must now face GWS Giants in a bid to reach the preliminary finals at the second time of asking.
- After such a promising season where they went on a nine-match winning streak, they have now lost two games in a row which were both against the Tigers and a third consecutive defeat here will end their year sooner than they would have hoped.
- The Lions have been forced into one change and they have lost hard-hitting winger Mitch Robinson whose physicality will be a huge miss and they will hope that tagger Nick Robertson can fill the void he has left.
GWS GIANTS
- GWS Giants were convincing winners over Western Bulldogs in their elimination final and will head to Brisbane full of confidence as they attempt to make the preliminary finals for the third time in four years.
- The Giants will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds too as they have enjoyed the better of the clashes with the Lions in recent times having won six of the last seven contests between the two although the side from Brisbane did win the last game in July.
- There is just one change to the Giants side that were defeated last week and it is an enforced one with Brett Deledio missing out with a calf injury and he has been replaced by Adam Tomlinson.
THE PREDICTION
Brisbane Lions were one of the form teams of the competition heading into the finals and despite facing the only side with a better recent record than them, they will need to respond to back-to-back losses. They went down to Richmond Tigers for the second game in succession last week and now host a GWS Giants team that have had the upper hand on them in their last seven games with the Giants winning six of those. However, with Brisbane winning their most recent clash this season they will feel that they have the upper hand and with home advantage to boot, the Lions can edge this.
