AC Milan Preview: Inconsistent Rossoneri
The appointment of former Lille and Roma boss Paulo Fonseca was met by scepticism by AC Milan supporters over the summer and things started slowly but, with their extremely deep and quite impressive squad, they have got themselves back into the fight for a top four finish.
The Rossoneri’s most recent domestic outing saw them suffer a 2-1 loss in the city of Bergamo against high flying Atalanta last weekend. They went behind early to former man Charles De Ketelaere before Alvaro Morata quickly equalised but Ademola Lookman won the game late on.
Genoa Preview: Improved Genovese
Former Crystal Palace, New York City, Nice and Strasbourg boss Patrick Vieira was appointed quite late into the November international break with off-field issues hampering the Genovese as they sat just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.
Alberto Gilardino was performing quite well so Vieira’s new manager bounce of five points from three games means they are unbeaten in their last five matches. The visitors most recently shared a lacklustre goalless draw at home to a struggling Torino side last weekend.
AC Milan Team News: No Pulisic
One of Paulo Fonseca’s best pieces of work so far this season has been getting the best out of Christian Pulisic but the United States international is sidelined through injury for this weekend alongside key men such as Ismael Bennacer and Luka Jovic.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Alvaro Morata were both withdrawn with injuries in Wednesday's Champions League tie and will need to be assessed.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson Royal, Gabbia, Thiaw, Hernandez; Fofana, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Musah, Leao; Abraham
Unavailable: Florenzi (Injured), Bennacer (Injured), Pulisic (Injured), Jovic (Injured)
Questionable: Loftus-Cheek (Injured), Morata (Injured)
Genoa Team News: Key issues
Ukraine international midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy suffered a serious broken ankle earlier this season and he remains unavailable with Junior Messias another attacking injury issue following the departure of key attackers over the summer transfer window.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Sabelli, Bani, Matturro, Caricol; Badelj, Frendrup; Zanoli, Thorsby, Miretti; Pinamonti
Unavailable: Ekhator (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured), Ekuban (Injured)
Questionable: De Winter (Injured), Junior Messias (Injured)
AC Milan vs Genoa Prediction
AC Milan have a very impressive squad and are playing quite a nice style of football, despite their general inconsistencies. The Rossoneri will be expecting to keep pushing towards the top four and even into a title push given how open it is in Serie A. Genoa have an average squad that are being tasked with playing a more progressive style and after playing some out of form sides, they are likely to be exposed for the first time in the Vieira reign so a comfortable Milan win is to be expected.
