AC Milan Preview: Conceicao’s frustration

AC Milan experienced an extremely busy January with Sergio Conceicao replacing Paulo Fonseca and the Rossoneri immediately winning the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia before lots of transfer business with the arrivals of the likes of Kyle Walker and Santiago Gimenez.

The latter joined from Feyenoord and has now scored two goals in two games in Serie A for AC Milan with Conceicao’s side sandwiching their defeat in the Netherlands last week with hard-fought victories against strugglers Empoli and Hellas Verona.

Feyenoord Preview: Workers of Rotterdam

Feyenoord, even with the absence of the aforementioned Gimenez, continued to work hard and get themselves a result in Rotterdam last week as Igor Paixao notched a third minute winner for Brian Priske’s side who have been much better in home conditions in this competition.

That win was backed up by another disappointing performance and result in the Eredivisie at the weekend as they shared a goalless draw with NAC Breda the other day as they sit fourth in the Dutch top-flight behind Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar.

AC Milan Team News: Upping the work rate

Rafael Leao has received criticism for a lack of work rate in the last month or so and Conceicao, who said Leao would become one of the best players in the world under his management, now has a big question to answer as to whether he sticks with the mercurial Leao.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Walker, Thiaw, Pavlovic, Hernandez; Fofana, Reijnders; Pulisic, Felix, Leao; Gimenez

Unavailable: Emerson (Injured), Florenzi (Injured), Loftus-Cheek (Injured)

Questionable:

Feyenoord Team News: A few issues

The visitors are dealing with quite a few key injury doubts for this week, such as goalkeeper Justin Biljow and captain Quentin Timber, whilst they deal with confirmed defensive absentees such as Gernot Trauner, Bart Nieuwkoop and Jordan Lotomba.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Wellenreuther; Read, Beelen, Hancko, Smal; Moder, Milambo, Timber; Hadj Moussa, Ueda, Paixao

Unavailable: Trauner (Injured), Nieuwkoop (Injured), Lotomba (Injured)

Questionable: Biljow (Injured), Kasanwirjo (Injured), Timber (Injured), Hwang (Injured), Zerrouki (Injured), Stengs (Injured)

AC Milan vs Feyenoord Prediction

AC Milan’s performances have remained underwhelming in the last month and a half or so with Conceicao’s tenure this far being a very inconsistent one, despite the ability to grind out results. They face a Feyenoord side that go to San Siro with a lead and the key injury issues, as well as aforementioned sale of Gimenez, means they are likely to go with a defensive and pragmatic approach. So, as a result, a low-scoring affair would appear likely for this one as Milan try to force through the Feyenoord defence.

AC Milan vs Feyenoord Tip: Under 3.5 goals
