THE PREDICTION

World number 51 Ajla Tomjlanovic put her Wimbledon disappointment behind her with a straight-sets win over Yaroslava Shvedova in the first round of Tokyo 2020. The 28-year-old reached her first Grand Slam quarter-final at SW19 earlier this month before losing to the eventual champion Ashleigh Barty but it is promising to see her win her next match on tour. World number six Elina Svitolina will face her in the second round after overcoming a tough three-set tussle with Laura Siegemund. The 26-year-old is representing Ukraine for a second time at the Olympic Games and 15 career WTA titles says she can be a genuine contender for a medal here if she plays to her best level.

Tomjlanovic has never managed to beat Svitolina, with the Ukrainian leading their tour-level head-to-head at 3-0, but the Aussie has never had a better chance of doing so. Her exploits at Wimbledon should give her the confidence to go out against top players with more belief and Svitolina can often drop a set to her opponents. For this reason, take Tomljanovic to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance here.
