THE PREDICTION

Former world number one Karolina Pliskova continued her resurgence with a steady, experienced win over fellow veteran Carla Suarez Navarro. The 29-year-old was pegged back to one set all after the Spaniard fought brilliantly but the match was ultimately a solid enough win for Pliskova. Meanwhile, world number 61 Camila Giorgi made it back-to-back straight-set wins over tough competition by beating Elena Vesnina in the second round just a day after ousting world number 15 Jennifer Brady.

This will be the seventh tour-level meeting between Pliskova and Giorgi, with the Czech winning the majority of them for a 4-2 lead in their head-to-head record. Pliskova has won all three of their meetings on hard courts, with Giorgi taking two victories on clay and most recently on grass at last month’s Eastbourne International. The Italian has shown excellent form in bursts this summer but Pliskova should be too hot to handle here. Take the Czech to win outright, with four of their six matches seeing three sets.
