THE PREDICTION

World number 50 Donna Vekic put herself in the spotlight at Tokyo 2020 by beating the third seed Aryna Sabalenka in three blistering sets of tennis in the second round. Having already played three to beat Caroline Garcia, it is clear that the 25-year-old is feeling combative on court this week and she is so much better than her current ranking when in that mood. The former world number 19 will face the world number 20 as Kazakhstan’s rising star Elena Rybakina booked her round of 16 ticket in half the time. The powerful 22-year-old is yet to drop a set after wins over Sam Stosur and Rebecca Peterson and would have been the favourite to come through this first meeting before Vekic’s exploits. Now this match looks like it could go any which way, and most likely to three sets.

For want of a result, take Rybakina to win at least one considering both of Vekic’s matches so far have seen her concede.
