THE PREDICTION

In-form world number 11 Barbora Krejcikova beat Leylah Fernandez in straight sets to reach the round of 16 of her sixth tournament in a row. The 25-year-old has won three of those last five in Strasbourg, Prague and her first Grand Slam title from obscurity at Roland-Garros last month and she lost to the champions of the other two. No player on the WTA tour is in such a hot streak as the Czech and she looks likely to win a medal of some colour this week with plenty of seeds falling out of the draw. In her way is world number 12 Belinda Bencic, who is also enjoying her first Olympic Games with two straight-set wins over Misaki Doi and Jessica Pegula. The Swiss should be the favourite on experience here despite being a year younger than her opponent but such is Krejcikova’s meteoric rise it is hard to see Bencic even take a set here. Krejcikova’s seven-match winning streak has seen no sets dropped yet, so take her to win this in a blistering two.
