World champions United States kick off their Olympics campaign as favourites to secure the gold medal and for good reason, having won 39 of their last 41 fixtures. After failing to win a medal in 2016, this tournament has likely been earmarked by the United States players as must win ever since they lifted the World Cup in 2019. Most of that squad will feature in Japan, with stars such as Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe to name just a few all set to play a big part for their country once again. However, in Sweden they face an opponent that brings back terrible memories, as they were the country who knocked United States out of the 2016 Olympics via a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in the quarter-finals.
