THE PREDICTION

Australia head into the Olympics on a terrible run of form, failing to win any of their last five matches, albeit all were friendly games. Four of those fixtures ended in defeat with 14 goals conceded. With that in mind, New Zealand will be quietly confident they can cause an upset here. However, they face a tall order against an Aussie side with some serious firepower within their ranks. Striker Sam Kerr finished last season as the WSL top scorer and played a crucial role in club side Chelsea’s run to the Champions League final. It would be a surprise if Kerr wasn’t to find the net against New Zealand, although the Kiwis can take advance of a questionable Australian defence if they are adventurous enough going forward. Whilst Australia’s proven quality going forward will likely lead them to triumph against their big rivals, both teams to score is worth serious consideration.
