World number 11 Pablo Carreno Busta came into Tokyo 2020 as a champion after winning his first ATP 500 event at the Hamburg Open. The Spaniard now has six titles to his name after also claiming the Andalucia Open earlier this year but he faces another recent champion in 32-year-old Marin Cilic, who won his first title for three years, and his remarkable 19th overall, at the Stuttgart Open. Both players faced fairly winnable opening matches here whilst Cilic also won in the Doubles alongside seasoned pro Ivan Dodig in what looks like a team in contention for a medal.
This second round match looks like a really tricky one to confidently pick a winner for, especially given PCB’s current form and Marin Cilic’s domination of their head-to-head record. The Croat currently leads the Spaniard 4-0 with three wins on hard and one on clay over the years. The pair shared a four-set scrap at the 2018 Australian Open but that is the only set Cilic has dropped to the 30-year-old and that probably makes him the slightest of favourites here. Take world number 36 Cilic to win at least a set and leave the eventual winner up to chance.
