THE PREDICTION

World number 42 Nikoloz Basilashvili has won two ATP titles this season at the Qatar Open and the Munich Open and despite favouring the clay the Georgian is a tough opponent to face on hard courts too. The 29-year-old made short work of ousting Roberto Carballes Baena in the first round but the level will quickly increase in this second ever meeting with world number 26 Lorenzo Sonego. 26-year-old Sonego was made to work hard for his first Tokyo 2020 victory against an inspired home hopeful Taro Daniel but the Italian eventually came through in three sets and should be better for it here. Sonego won their previous encounter at last year’s Italian Open on clay but he is possibly at his best on this surface and that should see him double-down with an outright victory here.
