THE PREDICTION

What a fabulous match this should be between world number four Stefanos Tsitsipas and number 54 Frances Tiafoe just three weeks after the American shocked the Greek in the first round of Wimbledon. With their head-to-head record now finely poised at one win apiece, 22-year-old Tsitsipas is likely to come out all guns blazing to avenge his straight-sets defeat on the first day of the Championships in a poor performance not helped by his previous defeat in the Roland-Garros final. Tsitsipas was pegged back by an inspired Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round to eventually come through in three and that stabiliser should aid him in this match. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Tiafoe enjoyed a more straightforward victory over in-form Soonwoo Kwon in straight sets.

Several aspects of this match favour Tsitsipas this time around, not least his thirst for revenge. Without a crowd at Tokyo 2020, Tiafoe’s shot-making tends to suffer in the bigger moments but equally he would love to assert dominance over a player at the level he sees himself reaching. It is hard to confidently back the American at this phase of his promising career but Tsitsipas is also not at the height of his powers. In a tricky match to call, take the world number four to win at least a set and leave the winner up to chance.
