THE PREDICTION

World number five Alexander Zverev got his Olympic campaign underway with a comfortable straight-sets victory over Yen-Hsun Lu in the first round. The German has been given another winnable fixture against world number 113 Daniel Elahi Galan here and a win through to the round of 16 could see him gather up some potentially medal-winning momentum. 24-year-old Zverev has won two titles this season at the Mexican Open and the Madrid Masters and he is certainly a contender for a medal here with only Djokovic, Medvedev and Tsitsipas his natural predators.

Columbia’s Galan won his first round match well against Mohamed Safwat but this is a significant increase in level. The 25-year-old had some success on his favoured clay surface earlier this year, reaching the Chile open semi-finals, but otherwise he has spent much of 2021 on the Challenger circuit. Take Zverev to win this first meeting in straight sets.
