THE PREDICTION
World number 28 Ugo Humbert won the Halle Open last month to add to his European Open title from last year as the 23-year-old continues to improve. The Frenchman struggled on the clay swing but was thoroughly impressive late last year on hard courts and he could be a dark horse for a medal this week in Tokyo if he transfers from grass well enough. Conversely, world number 65 Pablo Andujar will be sad to see the end of another clay swing as a seasoned expert on the surface but he has enjoyed some career highlights this summer. The 35-year-old beat Roger Federer at the Geneva Open to earn the biggest win of his career and doubled-down to beat Dominic Thiem at Roland-Garros.
The Spaniard will be dangerous here on that form and despite Humbert being the better player on hard courts there is no guarantee he will start well. For that reason, take Humbert to win outright here in a match that could well hit the three hour mark if Andujar can take his clay form to the Olympic Games.
