THE PREDICTION
World number 120 Pedro Sousa’s last win on tour came at the Chile Open way back in March on the clay surface he favours. The Portuguese will play alongside Joao Sousa in the Men’s Doubles in a team full of heart against Japan’s Kei Nishikori and Ben McLachlan where they could find some success but this is a tough first draw in the Singles. World number 35 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has enjoyed his best season yet at the tender age of 22 with an excellent 20-13 record for 2021 and a first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland-Garros last month. The Spaniard looks to be at his best on the clay as well but certainly has the power game for a hard court and he should be targeting the round of 16 at least here.
The pair have never faced off at tour level but this should be a fairly straightforward affair. Davidovich Fokina comes in a little cold after a poor grass swing but Sousa spends much of his time on the Challenger circuit and that gulf in quality should eventually tell. Take ADF to win in straight sets.
