WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?
2016’s silver medal winner Yulimar Rojas is comfortably the heavy favourite to go one step better this year and take the gold medal for Venezuela. It is difficult to outline any more of the leading contenders to take the gold medal because Rojas’ form is exceptional. A season’s best of 15.43 metres is also her personal bet and just short of the world record with her ranking as the number 1 in the world being emboldened with every event she jumps at.
The reigning Olympic champion Caterine Ibarguen will be in medal contention alongside Shanieka Ricketts of Jamaica. Those two are expected to be competing for silver and bronze, though.
TSZ’S PREDICTION
This is going to be a short one because it is expected to be a foregone conclusion. Yuilmar Rojas qualification jump of 14.77 metres was the biggest and she has won the 2019 Pan American Games as well as the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha and London respectively. She should win this one, too.
