ZEYNEP SONMEZ VS EMMA NAVARRO PREDICTION
23-year-old Emma Navarro has enjoyed a transformative past 12 months on tour to rise as high as 20th in the world earlier this season but she will be keen to get back on the faster surfaces after an average clay swing.
The American won het maiden WTA title at the Hobart International in January, and several deep runs on hardcourts including to the quarter-finals at Indian Wells, but a 3-4 record on clay so far this swing says she should struggle against the top players in these conditions.
World number 163 Zeynep Sonmez qualified admirably to make her Grand Slam debut here at Roland-Garros but this should be too steep of a climb against Navarro’s overall level. Navarro finished runner-up to Diana Shnaider at the Paris Challenger two weeks ago to suggest she can perform to her seeding this fortnight but backing her to win this opener outright feels like a suitably cautious concession.
