20-year-old rising star Qinwen Zheng conceded just four games to former Roland-Garros semi-finalist Tamara Zidansek on Sunday to make a big statement of intent. The Chinese number one came in at a career-high WTA world ranking of 19th following an incredible breakthrough season last year and she has excellent pedigree in Paris already after taking the only set from Iga Swiatek’s title-winning campaign in the round of 16 here last summer. World number 58 Yulia Putintseva is a tricky customer capable of much better tennis than her current deflated ranking suggests but the Kazakh has failed to beat any player ranked inside the top 25 in what has been a largely frustrating season so far.
