THE PREDICTION

World number 23 Jan-Lennard Struff is the third seed in Zhuhai after setting a career-high of 21st earlier this season when finishing runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz at the Madrid Masters. An unfortunate injury soon afterwards saw the German miss out on July and August but he overcame Cristian Garin three sets on his return to the tour on Saturday to look a threat to the title here. World number 46 Yoshihito Nishioka came back from a first-set bagel to survive his first round match on Wednesday but he looked far better in winning two tight tiebreaks against Lloyd Harris in the round of 16. The 27-year-old found the form of his career this time last season and it will be interesting to see what he can do on a full Asian swing for the first time since before the pandemic. Struff and Nishioka share a 1-1 head-to-head record, with both matches seeing sets go both ways. This is a tough call considering how little tennis Struff has played recently but back the powerful German to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
