22-year-old Roman Andres Burruchaga will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 159th after stunning Diego Schwartzman in three sets to claim victory on his main tour debut. The Argentine qualified with gusto before taking on former number eight Schwartzman, a popular figure in these parts to say the least, and he will be backed to the hilt for the remainder of his campaign by a partisan crowd. World number 59 Yannick Hanfmann came back from a set down to beat Juan Pablo Varillas on Tuesday but he looks set for a tougher test as he takes on Burruchaga and the entire Cordoba crowd. The 32-year-old is an excellent clay-courter at his best but he has failed to win back-to-back matches on tour since making the semi-finals of the Mallorca Championships last June.
