World number 24 Victoria Azarenka is a tough player to pin down this season, with a recent run to the round of 16 at the US Open proof of what she can produce at her best. The former world number one has claimed eight Masters titles on North American soil across het illustrious career and she should thrive in these conditions in Guadalajara if fully dialled-in. In-form Shuai Zhang is, remarkably at 33 years old, close to breaking her career-high WTA world ranking of 23rd from around this time back in 2016. The Chinese star has struggled in recent weeks but a run to the round of 16 at the US Open and then the semi-finals at the Japan Open is proof of her potential and her biggest weapon, consistent shot-making, can often be Azarenka’s kryptonite. The Belarussian has never lost to Shuai Zhang, nor dropped a set, but this should be their closets-run match yet. Given her record, back Azarenka to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable victors but this match is probably best left out of an accumulator.
