THE PREDICTION
Both Magda Linette and Victoria Azarenka reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in January but their respective seasons have slightly unravelled since. Former world number one Azarenka was just one win away from a third final in Melbourne after winning back-to-back titles there in 2012 and 2013 but she has suffered several early exits in recent months either side of a thrilling round of 16 exit to Elina Svitolina at Wimbledon. World number 25 Linette lost to Belinda Bencic in the third round at SW19 in her most recent match, although a month’s break ahead of this first match back could well be the right move as she comes back to her favoured hardcourt with renewed vigour. The Pole did briefly find some reminiscent form to stun Azarenka in three sets at the Miami Open in March but Azarenka leads their head-to-head 2-1. The Belarussian has earned at least a set in each of their three meetings so take that option as a suitable way to avoid a tough call on the result.
