THE PREDICTION

World number seven Coco Gauff is yet to drop a set this week at the Guadalajara Open and she looked in incredible shape on Thursday, taking nine games in a row from Martina Trevisan to win comfortably. The 18-year-old became the youngest player to qualify for the WTA Finals since Maria Sharapova in 2005 and she will also play in the Women’s Doubles draw as her installable form alongside Jessica Pegula continues apace. World number 37 Victoria Azarenka has enjoyed a brilliant campaign this week to oust top seed Paula Badosa and 13th-seed Madison Keys but a victory here against Gauff in the form of her career so far seems a step too far. The 33-year-old former world number one has masses of experience in these conditions as the owner of seven Masters titles but Gauff’s ever-rising star should see her through this first encounter with the Belarussian. The teenager should be considered one of the favourites for the title this weekend with Iga Swiatek absent.
