VARVARA GRACHEVA VS COCO GAUFF PREDICTION
Having only once gone beyond the first round at the US Open, Varvara Gracheva’s prospects of repeating that feat are not too strong given that she has been handed one of the toughest opening round draws. The 24-year-old has reason to believe she can compete though; she recently took a set off world number one Iga Swiatek in Cincinnati, while her run to the fourth round at the French Open this year is her best career performance at a Grand Slam.
Another reason for Gracheva to be confident is the fact that Coco Gauff has not been at her best recently. The American – the reigning US Open champion – won just one game across both of the recent WTA 1000 events, while her only Singles title this year came all the way back in January.
That being said, returning to Flushing Meadows should bring back some positive memories for the world number three, and she should still be expected to progress in straight sets.
