UGO HUMBERT VS BRANDON NAKASHIMA PREDICTION

Ugo Humbert comes into this first-round match in Paris determined to enjoy a good tournament in his homeland. Humbert has had a quiet few weeks in Shanghai and then Basel but he reached the final in Japan prior to that and he will be confident of hitting some form with the extra motivation here.

He reached the quarter-finals in 2020 but that is the furthest he has gone and was knocked out in the second round last year. He will be desperate to go deep this time around.

He meets Brandon Nakashima who will be no pushover. The 23-year-old American played in Vienna last week and while he beat Tommy Paul in the first round, he lost to eventual runner-up in the round of 16. He has only won two matches in his last four tournaments so his form is not the best right now.

We have to favour Humbert in this one. He will have the home support firmly behind him and while Nakashima can always play the roll of spoiler, Humbert has enjoyed good success against him when they have met before. They have played twice previously – both this year – and Humbert won both matches and we expect him to make it three from three.
