TOMMY PAUL VS TOMAS MACHAC PREDICTION
Tommy Paul and Tomas Machac get the chance to play each other once again after meeting just a couple of weeks ago in Tokyo for the first time. It was Machac who grabbed the win then showing impressive character and determination after losing the first set.
That will give Machac good confidence coming into this match, as will the level of his performances in Shanghai so far. The 23-year-old Czech made a slow start against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina by losing the first set but he has not looked back since then. He won that match in three sets and then eased to a straight-sets win over Aleksandar Vukic on Tuesday.
The 30th seed now meets Paul once again and the American will be buoyed from his battling win over Alejandro Tabilo on Sunday. He lost the first set tiebreak and then ground out a tiebreak win of his own in the second before winning the third 6-2. That will give Paul good confidence especially after a mixed period.
We marginally favour Machac based on performance of the two players in recent weeks. He has good energy in his play while Paul’s motivation just seems a little off it at times. He is losing matches many expect him to win and that makes him wildly unpredictable. While we favour Machac, our preference is on games and we favour over 21.5 in this one.
