TOMMY PAUL VS GRIGOR DIMITROV PREDICTION
Tommy Paul has largely been in cruise control a lot of this week so far as he has been rarely troubled in any of his matches en route to the final.
He was most comfortable in his semi-final on Saturday as he beat Stan Wawrinka 6-3 6-2 as he continues his record of yet to drop a set in Stockholm.
He now meets Grigor Dimitrov in what has the potential to be an excellent game of tennis. The Bulgaria did drop his first set on Saturday in his semi as he had to come from behind to beat Tallon Griekspoor.
Both of these players have won this tournament before – Paul won it back in 2021 which was his first-ever ATP Tour title win. It was also Dimitrov’s first ATP Tour title win all the way back in 2013. He reached the final on two other occasions in 2014 and 2017 but lost those matches to Tomas Berdych and Juan Martin del Potro.
The pair have played each other twice before, very few for two quality players like these. Both meetings came in Grand Slam events in 2020. Tommy Paul won a five-set thriller in Australia and then Dimitrov claimed the win in the US in straight sets. Those were four years ago however and hard to read too much into that.
Our leaning in this one is marginally with Tommy Paul. He has looked strong this week and we like his sharpness. It is something that Dimitrov has struggled with a little when he has had longer runs in tournaments and his body cannot quite maintain the level any more. For that reason, we just edge the younger man to win this one.
