THE PREDICTION

24-year-old Tommy Paul set a career-high ATP world ranking of 37th this week after a run to the third round of Indian Wells in which he shocked world number three Alexander Zverev in three sets. The American won his first ATP tour title late last year at the Stockholm Open by defeating the defending champion Denis Shapovalov and he already owns an impressive 12-6 record for 2022 off the back of it. 25-year-old Benjamin Bonzi is also up to a career-high ATP world ranking of 59th after also reaching the third round in California. The Frenchman took Jannik Sinner to three sets before losing at Indian Wells in keeping with his recent form and this promises to be a quality battle as a result. Paul beat Bonzi in two tight sets at Adelaide 2 in January and he should be able to utilise the crowd’s backing to come through this rematch in similar fashion. However, the sensible move for an accumulator would be to take the American to win at least a set as the likelier of two capable winners.
