TOMAS MACHAC VS SEBASTIAN KORDA PREDICTION
Czechia’s Tomas Machac eased past veteran Fabio Fognini in the first round 7-5 6-1 6-3 and the 23-year-old will have received a nice confidence boost from the manner of that win. He had played in both ATP 1000 events prior to the US Open but was eliminated in the first round in Canada and in Cincinnati so a win was most welcome.
Machac showed back in March in Miami that he is more than capable on hard courts as he beat the likes of Rublev, Murray and Arnaldi en route to the quarters. He will fancy his chances of progressing here too but he does face a tough opponent in Sebastian Korda.
The 24-year-old Florida native rose to his highest ever world ranking earlier this month thanks to his stunning form of late and he will be keen to build on his number 15 ranking. He looked impressive in the 7-6 6-1 6-0 win over Corentin Moutet in the first round and made it look remarkably easy.
Machac will pose a stiffer challenge to him here but Korda should rightly be confident. He won in Washington just a few weeks ago and then reached the semis in Montreal. Korda is playing extremely well right now and we fully expect him to progress to the new round.
