TOMAS MACHAC VS ALEX MICHELSEN PREDICTION

Czech 23-year-old Tomas Machac is enjoying a great time in Tokyo so far as he has won two consecutive three-setters against quality opposition in Alexei Popyrin and Tommy Paul. The win against fifth-seed Paul was particularly impressive especially after losing the first set. He responded in style and his confidence must be through the roof coming into this one.

Alex Michelsen has now won four matches in Tokyo after coming through two rounds of qualifying as well as two rounds in the main draw. After beating Tsitsipas in three sets, the 20-year-old then hammered Aussie veteran Christopher O’Connell 6-1 6-4.

The pair now face off and they have only ever met once before. That came earlier this year in Geneva on clay as Machac won in straight sets 6-3 7-6 and that will give him confidence. Both players are pretty much at their highest ranking in the world rankings right now such is there form but our sense is Machac just has that fraction more consistency in his play. For that reason, we marginally favour him.
