Timofey Skatov has made it through to the main draw for a second year in a row after progressing through three rounds of qualifying matches. The talented Kazakh 23-year-old beat some experienced foes like Facundo Bagnis and fought back from a set down against Brit Billy Harris to earn this great opportunity.
He has earned the right to meet big-serving but fragile Pole Hubert Hurkacz. The 27-year-old recovered from his meniscus injury that he suffered at Wimbledon but then had to withdraw in Cincinnati last week with a calf problem when he was losing to Frances Tiafoe.
His physical condition has to be a major concern but he will be hoping his serve will largely get him through a match like this. He could well hold a bit back here which could also leave him a little vulnerable but his serve should be enough to see him progress although approach his matches with caution right now.
