THE PREDICTION

25-year-old Tim van Rijthoven had won just one tour-level match before this week at the Libema Open but the Dutchman beat Hugo Gaston in straight sets on Friday to reach the semi-finals on home soil, backing up a career-best ranking win over Taylor Fritz. Van Rijthoven will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 153rd no matter the outcome here, taking over a quarter from his current rank at 205th and perhaps kick-starting some form on the tour for a first time. World number nine Felix Auger-Aliassime, however, should be one step too far this week despite the home crowd getting fully behind the Dutchman. 21-year-old Auger-Aliassime has a promising game for grass and back-to-back straight-set wins over Tallon Griekspoor and Karen Khachanov is solid enough form to suggest he can step over this potential banana skin. Van Rijthoven deserves the respect of taking FAA to win outright here, though.
