TAYLOR FRITZ VS HOLGER RUNE PREDICTION
Taylor Fritz has been wildly inconsistent in recent months but based on his two wins in straight sets so far in Shanghai, there is every chance this is one of his more positive tournaments. The only counter argument to that is the quality of opponent he has played so far as the draw has been relatively kind. He beat Terence Atmane winning two tiebreaks and then overcame Yosuke Watanuki 6-3 6-4 with a solid display.
He will have to step it up a level now as he faces Danish 21-year-old Holger Rune who has consistency issues of his own. He has looked good so far in Shanghai however and has beaten two incredibly tough opponents in Matteo Berrettini and then Jiri Lehecka. He won both in straight sets and is looking really sharp.
The pair have met twice before and each player has won one match. They played one of those matches this year and that came at Indian Wells. It was Rune who won in three sets and that will give him some confidence coming into this one.
Both of these players are hugely unpredictable in recent times but we are leaning with Rune. The level he has been playing at so far in Shanghai is impressive and if he can continue that, he can beat Fritz here.
