Former world number two Alexander Zverev beat Soonwoo Kwon in straight sets on Tuesday in an encouraging step on his long journey back from a horrid ankle injury suffered at Roland-Garros last summer. The current world number 17 looked well off the pace at the Australian Open last month but conditions in Rotterdam should aid his recovery as he can lean more reliably on his powerful serve to shorten points. World number 61 Tallon Griekspoor is probably in the form of his life right now, though, having lost just one match this season. The Dutchman claimed his maiden ATP title at the Maharashta Open early last month and it took eventual runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas to knock him out of the Australian Open last time out on tour. A straight-sets victory over Mikael Ymer is a good result indoors and Griekspoor will receive a huge majority of the support here on home soil. With Zverev’s fitness still in doubt, back the Dutchman to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
