STAN WAWRINKA VS BEN SHELTON PREDICTION
Stan Wawrinka will be buoyed by his win over Adrian Mannarino in the first round which was the first time he has ever beaten the Frenchman at the fourth time of asking. That will only give him greater belief that he can do well in one of his home events.
He now meets American Ben Shelton who is a completely different proposition to Mannarino and could not be any more different stylistically.
Shelton beat Tomas Etcheverry in his opening match in straight sets and he will be fired up to play such an esteemed veteran here.
This will be a tough test for 39-year-old Wawrinka and whether he can keep apace with Shelton. Wawrinka should be able to find a way to create opportunities on Shelton’s huge serve but he will have to take the chances when they come.
We can see a see-saw battle potentially here and would not rule out Wawrinka winning a set but overall, we just have to side with the younger man to edge it.
