THE PREDICTION

This look set to be a live doubles clash between two feisty teams with top nominations Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Beatriz Haddad-Maia likely to win their respective singles rubbers. Both Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo and Brazil’s Haddad-Maia are seasoned doubles players alongside their singles careers, with the pair winning a Masters title each alongside their respective partners, but Haddad-Maia certainly comes in hottest in that respect after doing the impressive double at the WTA Elite Trophy in November. Brazil look to have an ace up their sleeve here, though as Thiago Seyboth Wild should make way for former doubles number one Marcelo Melo, who comes in to Perth ranked 46th at 40 years old after a strong 2023 saw him add the Halle Open to his already stacked trophy cabinet.

Davidovich Fokina has the potential to play well in this environment, particularly if he copes well with the initial pressure in the opening tie, but Melo and Haddad-Maia make for a vastly experienced duo. Take Brazil to edge this to win the tie 2-1.

TIP: Brazil to win
